La entrevista terminada, entrevista interminable

In The finished interview, never ending interview (La entrevista terminada, entrevista interminable) I show a field of investigation on language and geopolitics in which I build new connexions between movies and other fragments of my own works developed in the past years. I work by stressing symbolic situations that are present in migratory and identitarian processes, through complex articulations of people outside the field of action. I thus install my audiovisual discourse on the borders established between what is real and what is created, what is said and what is stated, to fixate in the imagination certain contemporary issues on migrant, unstable, and homeless identities.
I label my work as video-essay, in order to re-establish a space of review, distant enough from the documentary. My attempt is to bring about a different analytical view over the obliteration of social bonds and the break of affiliation. I use a non-journalistic approach to the interview, emphasizing the role of silences, nonsense, suspended judgement, and accounts controlled by the threat of exclusion. The installation allows the combination and articulation of all these fragments, giving place to a story. This story responds to the demands of the antithesis that is the dialectic montage of strong moments of enunciation, determined by the (apparently) impulsive and thoughtless use of discourse that leads the generative force of new fictions. I will show the following video-essays: Retrato Oblícuo (Oblique Portrait), Los Invisibles (The Invisible), ¿Aquí vive la Señora Eliana M...? (Is this the home of Mrs. Eliana M...?), De Gerardo (From Gerardo), Anna, una ilegal más (Anna, another illegal alien), Santiago, Chile, 2009, as well as theoretical texts and analytical work by sociologists, architects, and artists.
